GHMC to develop smart parking facility in Khairatabad zone
Hyderabad's Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is tackling the issue of haphazard parking by implementing a smart parking infrastructure project inspired by Singapore's model. This initiative, to be undertaken through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will be rolled out in five zones: Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Goshamahal, and Karwan. The project aims to address parking congestion, improve facilities, and offer a seamless user experience using advanced technology. The smart parking project will encompass indoor, on-street, and off-street parking options, creating a unified digital ecosystem for all types of parking facilities. The Khairatabad facility will feature digital screens displaying slot availability and ads, surveillance cameras, vending kiosks, EV charging points, WiFi, and LPWAN technology for vehicle identification. The system will also include weather-resistant parking sensors for real-time occupancy updates, a centralized system for tracking parking duration, and a mobile app/web portal for slot access and cashless payments. The goal is to improve urban mobility by reducing on-street parking congestion and creating a more efficient and user-friendly parking experience in Hyderabad.04:53 PM Mar 01, 2025 IST
