Protests continue at University of Hyderabad over 400-acre land auction in Kancha Gachibowli
Students and faculty at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) are protesting against the government's auction of 400 acres of university land in Kancha Gachibowli. The protest escalated on April 2nd with police using mild lathi charges to disperse demonstrators who attempted to march to the East Campus. The Students' Union has launched an indefinite protest and a boycott of classes, demanding the university remove police and machinery from campus, register the land under the university's ownership, and release meeting minutes regarding the land. The protest follows the clearing of the land by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) on March 30th, which resulted in arrests and a registered case against individuals involved in the protest. The university authorities have denied using lathi charges on students and urged them to resolve the issue through official channels.12:57 PM Apr 02, 2025 IST
