Food safety raids in Telangana flag hygiene lapses, expired stock
HYDERABAD: Telangana Food Safety officials carried out inspections at hotels, restaurants, sweet shops, bakeries, school kitchens and canteens across several districts, finding major violations of hygiene and food safety norms.
At Kaveri Kitchen, inspectors reported greasy floors and poor waste segregation. Srinivasa Hotel in Narayanpet stored expired chilli sauce and a Sprite batch. Kings Family Restaurant in Siricilla received a pull-up for stale chicken biryani. Tirumala Ice Cream Parlour in Medak faced action for labelling and display violations. Keerthi Bakery received a citation for unsanitary kitchens, failed pest control, and licensing lapses. Inspectors discarded expired and stale stock on the spot. Officials issued notices to the establishments.
Hospital kitchens under scrutiny
As part of routine quality checks, the task force also inspected diet kitchens at three government hospitals — Government Maternity Hospital, Sultan Bazar; Government ENT Hospital, Koti; and Area Hospital, Nampally.
At GMH Sultan Bazar, operated by Katikam Linga Reddy, officials found open bins, rice bags and raw vegetables placed directly on the floor, absence of water test reports, lack of FoSTaC training, and food handlers without caps and aprons. Area Hospital Nampally, managed by Shiva Sai Manpower Services, inspectors noted unclean floors, rusty racks, greasy exhaust systems, damp walls and damaged window mesh. ENT Hospital, Koti, operated by Boini Shiva Kumar, officials flagged drainage overflow, pest entry risk, greasy exhausts and absence of separate storage for raw materials.
