Secunderabad, JNTU to get two major skywalks
HYDERABAD: To ease traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety, the Hyderabad Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (HUMTA) will build two large skywalks in the city, managing director Jeevan Babu said. He was speaking at the Traffic and Road Safety Summit 2025 at Jalavihar Auditorium.
Skywalk near Secunderabad railway station
Secunderabad railway station and JNTU junction have been identified as the most congested points in the city. With three major bus stands and two metro stations in Secunderabad, frequent traffic jams and accidents occur. HUMTA will build a massive skywalk connecting the East and West Metro stations, Rathifile bus stand, and two other bus terminals. This will allow passengers to move between key locations without crossing roads.
JNTU skywalk linking university and Lulu Mall
The second skywalk will be built at JNTU junction, one of the city’s busiest traffic points on National Highway. It will connect JNTU Metro station, JNTU campus and Lulu Mall. The facility is aimed at enabling students and shoppers to walk safely without coming down to road level.
Pilot multi-modal integration at Ameerpet
HUMTA is also implementing a pilot project of multi-modal integration and public transport improvement at Ameerpet Metro station. Measures within a 500-metre radius include upgraded footpaths, parking areas and vending zones. Road markings are being redrawn and enforcement measures will ensure pavements remain free from encroachments.
