Hyderabad faces new environmental concern, 720 tonnes of textile waste pile up daily
Hyderabad is facing a growing environmental challenge due to the large amount of discarded clothing ending up in its dumping yards. Approximately 720 tonnes of textile waste are generated daily, with only 30% being potentially reusable. The lack of proper collection and recycling systems means most clothes are simply discarded, despite the fact that they can take decades to decompose. The city currently has only one recycling plant, which is insufficient to handle the amount of textile waste. Experts suggest adopting the “RRR” principles of reuse, recycle, and reduce, and increasing the capacity of the recycling plant. The Prime Minister recently acknowledged the problem of textile waste in India, urging citizens and businesses to find solutions.09:21 PM Apr 01, 2025 IST
