Hyderabad deploys 29,000 police personnel, bans DJs for Ganesh immersion
Hyderabad: With the final immersion of Ganesh idols set to begin, the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner has announced that all security and logistical arrangements are complete. In one of the largest civic-deployed security operations, a force of 29,000 police personnel will be on duty in shifts to ensure a peaceful and incident-free immersion process.
Strong police security measures have been put in place to prevent any untoward incidents. A total of 29,000 police personnel will be on duty in shifts. In addition to the existing surveillance infrastructure, the police have deployed an extra 250 CCTV cameras and 6 drones that will be used to monitor the immersion routes. The police are anticipating that the immersion will last for about 40 hours, with around 50,000 idols being immersed at Tank Bund alone.
DJ ban for public safety
The Hyderabad police have imposed a ban on DJ systems during processions this year. The Commissioner highlighted that loud music from DJ setups has previously led to multiple deaths and serious health incidents among young participants due to noise exposure and related accidents. He emphasized that the prohibition is strictly a public health measure and not related to religious observance.
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi has extended its support to the police regarding the ban, encouraging organizers and devotees to cooperate.
Special timing for Khairatabad Ganesh
To streamline crowd management and reduce congestion, special efforts are being made to complete the immersion of the renowned Khairatabad Ganesh idol between 6:00 AM and 1:30 PM. This timing is expected to help distribute crowd flow and minimize risks during the peak immersion period.
The police have urged the public to follow instructions, avoid rushing, and use designated immersion points for a smooth and safe conclusion to the festivities.
GHMC agreements
A force of 15,000 sanitation workers will operate in three shifts to maintain cleanliness around immersion sites. The corporation has also deployed 125 JCBs, 102 mini tippers, and other machinery to manage waste disposal. So far, more than 10,500 metric tonnes of excess garbage have been cleared and transported to processing units in Jawaharnagar.
To minimize ecological damage and streamline logistics, GHMC has designated 20 major lakes and 72 artificial ponds for idol immersion. A total of 134 static cranes and 259 mobile cranes, including a Bahubali Crane, have been deployed at strategic points. The iconic Khairatabad Maha Ganesh idol will be immersed using Bahubali Crane Point No. 4 at Hussain Sagar.
