Hyderabad's GHMC deploys 393 cranes, sets up 72 artificial ponds for safe Ganesh Immersion
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has finalized an extensive action plan to ensure the safe, orderly, and environmentally conscious immersion of Ganesh idols across the city on Saturday.
A force of 15,000 sanitation workers will operate in three shifts to maintain cleanliness around immersion sites. The corporation has also deployed 125 JCBs, 102 mini tippers, and other machinery to manage waste disposal. So far, more than 10,500 metric tonnes of excess garbage have been cleared and transported to processing units in Jawaharnagar.
To minimize ecological damage and streamline logistics, GHMC has designated 20 major lakes and 72 artificial ponds for idol immersion. A total of 134 static cranes and 259 mobile cranes, including a Bahubali Crane, have been deployed at strategic points. The iconic Khairatabad Maha Ganesh idol will be immersed using Bahubali Crane Point No. 4 at Hussain Sagar.
Thirteen control rooms have been set up in collaboration with the police to monitor proceedings. At Hussain Sagar, nine boats, Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams, and 200 trained swimmers will be stationed to ensure safety. Additionally, 160 Ganesh Action Teams (GATs) will monitor the 303.3-kilometer-long procession route.
A total of 56,187 temporary lights have been installed along procession routes and immersion points, with officials ensuring 100% functionality through real-time monitoring. Road repairs, pothole filling, and tree pruning along 839 kilometers of procession routes have also been completed. For public convenience, 309 mobile toilets have been installed at key locations.
Seven medical camps with ambulance services will operate in three shifts to address any health emergencies. Special rest areas with meals have been arranged for crane operators and ground staff.
In a coordinated effort involving multiple government departments, the civic body is leaving no stone unturned to manage the large-scale event efficiently. A multi-departmental team including Police, Revenue, Electricity, HMDA, Water Board, Traffic Police, R&B, HYDRAA, Medical & Health, Tourism, and Information departments will remain on high alert throughout the immersion process.
Appeal from the Commissioner
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan urged devotees and organizers to transport idols to immersion points on time, avoid throwing garbage on roads, and strictly use designated garbage points along the procession routes. He also appealed to citizens not to use colored paper bits during the immersion procession, as they are harmful to the environment and difficult to remove, besides causing inconvenience to commuters.
With these robust arrangements, GHMC aims to ensure that Ganesh Immersion 2025 is conducted in a safe, smooth, and environmentally responsible manner.
