GHMC revives Charminar parking project after years of delay

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is finally taking action to address the long-standing parking issue near the iconic Charminar in Hyderabad. After years of delays, the GHMC will soon release a notification inviting private organizations to construct a multi-level parking complex at the Charminar bus stand under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This follows a feasibility study directed by the Chief Minister and a recent visit by GHMC officials to assess the parking situation. The initiative is part of the GHMC's plan to construct ten multi-level parking complexes across the city in a phased manner. The project aims to alleviate the parking woes faced by visitors and locals near Charminar, Chowmahalla Palace, and Mecca Masjid, which currently lack designated parking facilities. The construction is expected to take place on a 4,000 square yard vacant land at the Charminar bus stand. This move comes after years of delays and follows calls from the AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi for the construction of a parking lot near Charminar and a cable car to Golconda.
