PIL filed in Telangana High Court for swift rescue of SLBC tunnel workers
A PIL has been filed in the Telangana High Court demanding the expedited rescue of eight workers trapped in a collapsed tunnel in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC). The Telangana government assured the court that rescue operations are ongoing with the involvement of the Army, Singareni rescue teams, and NDRF personnel. Rescue teams have reached 14 kilometers into the tunnel, but progress is hindered by mud and debris. Minister Jupally Krishna Rao confirmed that rescuers have located four of the trapped workers and expressed hope that they will be rescued by Sunday evening. A ground-penetrating radar study detected soft material beneath the debris, suggesting the workers may be trapped beneath the TBM. While the chances of survival are low, ambulances are on standby at the site. The incident occurred on February 22, 2025, when a portion of the tunnel roof collapsed at the 14-kilometer mark, trapping two engineers, two operators, and four laborers employed by Jaiprakash Associates.03:14 PM Mar 03, 2025 IST
