One dead, 7 critical after eating leftover mutton from fridge in Vanasthalipuram
Hyderabad: A case of suspected food poisoning was reported in Vanasthalipuram, today, on July 22, 2025, leaving one person dead and seven others in critical condition after a family consumed leftover food prepared during the Bonalu festival."
The deceased, Srinivas, an employee of the Road Transport Corporation (RTC), reportedly died on the spot after eating mutton that had been stored in the refrigerator. Seven of his family members who also consumed the leftovers fell seriously ill and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The affected include Rajitha (38), Jashwitha (15), Gouramma (65), Lahari (17), Santhosh Kumar (39), Radhika (38), and a child, Krithanga (7). They are believed to have eaten stored mutton, goat intestines curry, and chicken.
Srinivas had hosted relatives for a Bonalu celebration at his residence, where chicken and mutton dishes were served. The food was later stored and consumed by the family, leading to the incident.
Health officials are investigating the cause of the poisoning. Further details are awaited.
