Hyderabad DRI seizes 1,448 Indian Flap Shell Turtles in Khurda, Odisha; One held
DRI Hyderabad Zonal Unit has been actively combating wildlife trafficking in India. In February 2025, they apprehended an individual and seized 1,448 Indian Flap Shell Turtles, a Schedule I species, at the Godipada Toll Plaza, Odisha. Previously, in December 2024, DRI officials seized illegally traded dead Black and Soft Corals in Andhra Pradesh. Two individuals were apprehended for trafficking in dead corals and a supplier in Ongole was later arrested. In November 2024, DRI officers rescued a live Indian Pangolin, a highly trafficked species, and arrested four individuals involved in its illegal trafficking in Andhra Pradesh. These operations highlight DRI’s commitment to protecting endangered species and combating illegal wildlife trade.
