Director Ram Gopal Varma sentenced to three months jail in cheque bounce case
Film director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has been sentenced to three months in jail by an Andheri Magistrate's Court in Mumbai for a cheque bounce case dating back to 2018. The case stems from a complaint filed by a company named Shree, alleging that RGV's firm issued a bounced cheque. The court also ordered RGV to pay the complainant Rs 3.72 lakh in compensation within three months, failing which he will face an additional three-month jail term. RGV was found guilty under the Negotiable Instruments Act and a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued for him. Despite this setback, RGV recently announced his upcoming project, 'Syndicate,' described as his most ambitious film yet. Set in the near future, the movie will explore the evolution of criminal organizations in India, starting from street gangs to corporate criminals, and will focus on the cyclical nature of crime and terror. RGV has expressed his desire to regain his cinematic success with this film and has vowed to approach his future projects with the same sincerity that characterized his earlier work, including his iconic film 'Satya.'12:07 PM Jan 23, 2025 IST
