Dug-up roads, no progress: Musheerabad residents frustrated with GHMC delays
Commuters in Hyderabad's Musheerabad and Mansoorabad divisions are facing severe inconvenience due to unfinished road construction projects. Residents are frustrated as the road work, initiated with promises of improved infrastructure, has been stalled in several areas. The GHMC is facing allegations of corruption and negligence. There are reports of contractors submitting bills for projects completed years ago and engineers approving them after taking kickbacks. An investigation has been launched into bills submitted by contractors, some of which are for projects sanctioned eight years ago. The discrepancy raises concerns about irregularities, with the total amount in question exceeding Rs. 160 crore. Despite tender processes being completed, several road projects remain unfinished, even after six months. In some cases, contractors have dug up roads without permission, leaving them in worse condition than before. Residents are demanding action against the contractors and engineers involved. Specific examples highlight the problems: In Vivekananda Nagar, a contractor dug up a mud road and laid gravel and sand before the work was halted due to complaints about the colony layout. In Bharat Seva Samaj street, the contractor dug up the old CC road and left the project unfinished, leaving debris on the street. In Azhar Galli, road excavation for an underground drainage project remains incomplete. In Mallayya street, road construction in front of Arya Samaj school was abruptly halted.09:43 PM Mar 06, 2025 IST
