DCA seizes fake Foron-XT Tablets & misleading medicines in Musheerabad & Sangareddy
Hyderabad: On February 25, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana carried out raids in Musheerabad, seizing Foron-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid Tablets, and Zinc Sulphate Tablets) that were falsely manufactured and sold as food products/nutraceuticals.
The tablets, which were found to be falsely marketed under a 'food license' (FSSAI license), were being sold with misleading claims. DCA officials discovered that the product was manufactured by Maxtra Laboratories, located in Rangarangaiah Nagar, Chengicherla Village, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, Telangana, and marketed by Zyve Pharmaceuticals, Industrial Housing Colony, Ashok Nagar, Khairtabad, Hyderabad.

According to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the product must be manufactured under a 'drug license' and adhere to the 'Good Manufacturing Practices' (GMP) outlined in Schedule-M of the Drugs Rules. The product did not meet the required quality standards prescribed in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP), posing potential health risks. Selling drugs without a valid drug license is punishable by up to five years in prison.
In a separate action, the DCA also seized two Ayurvedic medicines, Podapathri Powder and Stone-Go Alkalizer Syrup, for making misleading claims about treating 'Diabetes' and 'Renal Stones,' respectively. These claims violate the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits such advertisements.
Podapathri Powder, manufactured by Sri Amulya Herbals, Vijayawada, was detected in Miryalaguda, while Stone-Go Alkalizer Syrup, produced by Petal Healthcare and Amplec Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., was found in Beeramguda, Ameenpur (V) & (M), Sangareddy District.
The Drugs and Magic Remedies Act prohibits advertisements claiming to treat certain diseases, with violations punishable by up to six months in prison, a fine, or both.
Drugs Inspectors P. Renuka, J. Ashwin Kumar, and T. Praveen Kumar led the raids. Further investigations are underway, and action will be taken against the offenders.
