Siddipet woman with Guillain-Barré Syndrome admitted to KIMS; No travel history to Pune
A 25-year-old woman from Siddipet, Telangana, is hospitalized with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Secunderabad. While GBS is linked to a recent outbreak in Pune, Maharashtra, she has no travel history to the area. GBS is a rare neurological condition where the immune system attacks the nerves, causing weakness, numbness, and breathing difficulties. It can be triggered by infections like Campylobacter jejuni, a bacterium found in contaminated food and water, which causes diarrhea and abdominal cramps. The woman initially received treatment at another hospital but was transferred to KIMS Hospital due to the severity of her condition. To prevent GBS and Campylobacter infection, it is recommended to: Boil water before drinking. Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly. Cook meat and poultry thoroughly. Practice good hygiene. Seek medical attention for sudden weakness, numbness, or diarrhea.04:53 PM Jan 31, 2025 IST
