DCA Telangana raids 28 blood centers, 14 found violating screening & storage norms
The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana conducted a special drive targeting unqualified practitioners, medical shops, and blood centers in February 2025. The drive resulted in the seizure of several drugs and the detection of multiple violations. During inspections, 14 out of 28 blood centers were found to be in violation of regulations. Additionally, a quack's clinic in Begumpet Village was raided, resulting in the seizure of various medicines including antibiotics and analgesics. The DCA also found that Dawafer-XT Tablets, marketed as nutraceuticals under a food license, were actually classified as drugs and were being sold illegally. Further, 11 products with misleading claims were seized, including treatments for various ailments such as menstrual disorders, leprosy, and heart diseases. These advertisements violated the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act. The DCA has been actively pursuing cases against quacks, registering 151 cases since January 2024. They have also highlighted that wholesalers supplying medicines to unlicensed individuals are punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The DCA urged the public to report any suspected illegal drug manufacturing activities or complaints regarding medicines through their toll-free number.03:26 PM Mar 01, 2025 IST
