Rain chaos in Yakutpura: Locals vent anger at AIMIM MLA over stalled drain works

Hyderabad: Tensions flared in Yakutpura on Thursday as residents confronted AIMIM MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj over the long-standing nala (drainage) problem, which resurfaced after heavy rains led to flooding in several areas.

The confrontation occurred at Moula ka Chilla, where the MLA was inspecting rain-affected localities. Residents, angered by repeated delays and unkept assurances, accused him of neglecting the issue despite ongoing complaints.

Rainwater had entered several houses in Madina Colony, Moula ka Chilla, and nearby areas earlier in the day. With no response from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) workers, locals took it upon themselves to clear blockages in the nala to restore water flow.

The situation escalated when the MLA’s followers allegedly attempted to stop or threaten residents. In response, some locals clashed with them and reportedly assaulted a few party workers. The MLA was later escorted from the area by his security personnel.

It was learnt that GHMC officials had previously visited the site and indicated that nala widening work was underway. However, residents remain frustrated by the lack of visible progress and the recurring flooding during every monsoon.
