Hyderabad: Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (TGGENCO) is setting up a 4,000 MW (5X800 MW) Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) at Veerlapalem village in Dameracherla mandal, Nalgonda district.

Once fully operational, Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) will require approximately 50,000 metric tonnes of coal per day. This translates to around 12 to 14 railway rakes daily, to be sourced primarily from Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

To support this demand, TGGENCO has constructed a dedicated railway line from the Janpahad take-off point to the YTPS site at an estimated cost of Rs. 500 crores. Currently, South Central Railways is supplying four rakes per day to the plant. The supply will need to be tripled by December 2025.

In this context, a review meeting was held on Monday by TGGENCO Chairman and Managing Director, following instructions from the Deputy Chief Minister and the Principal Secretary of the Energy Department. The meeting focused on the status of the railway siding works and the readiness for increased coal transportation.

The Chairman directed TGGENCO officials and contractors to expedite and complete all pending works on the YTPS railway siding by December, to ensure the site is ready to receive 12 to 14 rakes per day.

Principal Chief Operations Manager of South Central Railways informed that the railways are fully prepared to handle the required coal movement through the existing network. He added that doubling of railway lines is in progress between Dornakal and BDCR, and between Motamarri and Vishnupuram, to accommodate increased freight traffic.

However, the Railways also advised TGGENCO to consider alternative sources of coal supply, indicating that SCCL alone may not be able to meet the plant’s full demand in the future.

The meeting was attended by B. Nagya, IRTS, Director (Coal and Logistics), TGGENCO; A. Ajay, Director (Civil), TGGENCO; K. Padmaja, IRTS, Principal Chief Operations Manager, South Central Railways; and R. Sudharshan, IRTS, Chief Freight Traffic Manager, South Central Railways.
