Chain snatching in Malkajgiri: Morning walk turns ordeal for 54-year-old woman

Secunderabad: A 54-year-old woman fell victim to a chain snatching on Friday early morning while she was on a morning walk under Malkajgiri police station limits of Rachakonda commissionerate.

The victim, Barma Naga Jyothi, a housewife, was walking near Brundavan Gardens in Prashanth Nagar when the crime occurred.

According to the victim, the incident occurred around 6:45 AM. Two unidentified individuals on a blue motorcycle approached her from behind. The pillion rider forcefully yanked the gold chain from the victim's neck, causing her to fall to the ground.

“The stolen chain weighed approximately 2½ tolas, while the victim managed to retain 1½ tolas of the mangalsutra. The sudden attack left the woman with a scratch near her right-hand elbow and a bruise on her neck,” said Malkajgiri police.

The victim, a resident of Venkateshwara Nagar, described the perpetrators as two unknown persons who quickly escaped on a blue motorcycle after the chain snatching. Based on the complaint, Malkajgiri police registered a case under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Detective Inspector N. Srishylam of Malkajgiri Police Station is investigating the matter. The police are working to identify the suspects and gather more information about the incident.
