The fraud began when the victim’s husband received a Facebook message from mobile number 7907806419, which showed the WhatsApp profile picture of his brother, who currently resides in Saudi Arabia. Believing it was genuinely his brother, he began chatting with the sender.

The fraudster claimed he wanted to transfer money into the victim’s husband’s bank account and requested the account details. A fake Western Union transfer slip was then sent, with a promise that the money would be credited within 24 hours. About an hour later, the fraudster called again, claiming he was stuck at the embassy due to an expired visa and could not return to India. He said he would share the contact number of an “agent” and urged the victim’s husband to get in touch and send money urgently.

When the victim’s husband contacted the so-called agent, he was told that money was needed to renew the visa. Trusting the request, he made multiple payments. Later, the fraudster demanded another ₹90,000 for flight tickets, which was also transferred. Eventually, the victim’s husband realized it was a scam. In total, he lost ₹1,19,500. The victim has lodged an online complaint seeking action.
