Weather alert: Thunderstorms with moderate rain likely in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: An Orange alert has been issued for the rains in Hyderabad and its surrounding districts by the Indian Meteorological department(IMD) in its latest alert released on Saturday evening. The Orange alert indicates that the residents should be ‘be prepared’ for the moderate rains. The city and its surrounding districts including Medchal Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Vikarabad and Yadadri Bhuavanagiri should brace for rains in the next couple of hours. The rain is likely to escalate into flood like situation in the low lying areas and cause inundation in several affected parts.

The official alert released by the IMD states that, “Moderate Rain and Moderate Thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41-61kmph very likely to occur in Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts in the next two-three hours.”

Further a yellow alert has also been issued for the other districts of Telangana by the IMD. The alert reads, “Light rain and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed less than 40kmph very likely to occur in Jaishankar Bhuapalapally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Nizamabad, Rajananna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Wanaparthym districts during next 2-3 hours.”

In addition, Telangana government also issued a similar alert and forecasted moderate thunderstorms in several districts including Hyderabad in the next three hours.
