Nizampet: Residents of Pragathi Nagar, Nizampet, have raised concerns over the excessive wastage of drinking water in their area, fearing that this could lead to water scarcity in the coming days. They have called for immediate action to fix the issue and urged officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to address the problem as soon as possible to prevent further wastage.

The issue was highlighted on X (formerly Twitter), with a post reading, "Thousands of gallons of #Drinkingwater are being wasted in Pragathi Nagar. In this season, water is being wasted, and in the summer, we will face a water crisis. @HMWSSBOnline @MDHMWSSB @CPRO_TGCM @TelanganaCMO @revanth_anumula @PrlsecyMAUD @TelanganaCS #RoadSafety."

In response, HMWSSB’s official X handle (@HMWSSBOnline) acknowledged the complaint, stating, “Good afternoon sir, thank you for sharing the location details. A complaint with token number 5396 has been registered and communicated to the concerned PRAGATHINAGAR Section Manager to rectify ASAP. Thank you.”

Another concerned resident, Deva Raj, also urged the HMWSSB to take immediate action to fix the issue and save water.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Sai Teja, a resident of Pragathi Nagar, expressed frustration over the ongoing water wastage. He said, “Before the arrival of summer, we waste so much water, and when summer arrives, authorities say we should conserve it. HMWSSB keeps making these statements but fails to implement them. As a result, water is being wasted, and the authorities are neglecting the issue. The excessive water wastage on roads is also causing safety concerns, as vehicles are skidding on the waterlogged roads.”

Sai Teja added, “Officials seem indifferent to fixing these problems, and water is being taken for granted. I urge Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to intervene and take action. This issue will be addressed if he intervenes, just as he did with the electricity department. Preventive maintenance can easily fix these problems, but thousands of gallons of drinking water are being wasted, which is painful.”

Residents are urging HMWSSB to take the necessary steps to prevent further wastage and avoid a potential water crisis as the summer months approach.
