Khairatabad: Visitors to Birla Mandir in Ambedkar Colony, Khairatabad, are voicing their concerns about the unpleasant conditions they encounter on their way to the temple. Many tourists and devotees have reported navigating through leaking sewage and garbage strewn along the roads, detracting from their experience at one of the city's most popular attractions.

Residents are calling on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to address the ongoing sewage issues and to take measures against littering, including imposing fines on those who discard waste improperly.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, a local citizen (TG Citizen) who wished to remain anonymous said, “If the surroundings are clean and hygienic, it automatically attracts more tourists. Unfortunately, visitors to Birla Mandir are often greeted by the stench of sewage and waste, which is far from welcoming. It makes you wonder what message the officials and local residents give to citizens and tourists.”

He further stated, “Experiencing such filth can discourage people from coming to Birla Mandir. Who would want to revisit a place that feels neglected?”

TG citizen also took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustrations, posting, “The roads leading to #BirlaMandir, where lakhs of tourists visit, are lined with sewage and waste. We call ourselves a developed #Hyderabad, yet all lanes are in such a state. It’s embarrassing to report this.”

In his posts, he urged local authorities for better maintenance, stating, “This area attracts thousands of visitors; there should be a 24/7 monitoring system in place. When will #TeamGHMC reach that level of service? @ZC_Khairatabad @CommissionrGHMC @MDHMWSSB @HMWSSBOnline, please address the overflowing sewage and ensure there’s no water stagnation.”

In response to the public demand, both GHMC and HMWSSB acknowledged the concerns on X and registered the complaint with a token number, assuring citizens that the issue would be escalated to the relevant officials for resolution.
