Visakhapatnam/Hyderabad: J. Chandramouli, a retired bank employee from Pandurangapuram in Visakhapatnam, was among the 26 people killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

According to initial reports, Chandramouli was confronted by armed terrorists while on a visit to Baisaran, a meadow about six kilometres from the resort town of Pahalgam. Witnesses said he attempted to flee but was chased and shot at close range. He reportedly pleaded for his life before the attackers opened fire. One of the assailants allegedly shouted, “Go and tell your Prime Minister Modi,” before shooting him.

His body was discovered nearly three hours later by fellow tourists. His family has since left for Pahalgam, and his mortal remains are being transported to Visakhapatnam this afternoon.

In the same attack, an excise official posted in Hyderabad, Manish Ranjan, was also killed. A native of Bihar, Ranjan was on a Leave Travel Concession (LTC) trip with his family. He was reportedly shot in front of his wife and children, who survived the incident.

The attack left around 10 others injured and is suspected to have been carried out by a Pakistan-based terror group. The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, especially among families of the victims and security officials.
