Vikarabad Earthquake: 3.1 magnitude tremor hits at 4 AM
Hyderabad: Mild earthquake tremors shook parts of Vikarabad district in the early hours of Thursday, causing panic among residents. The quake, measuring 3.1 in magnitude, struck at 3:56 AM IST with its epicenter near Parigi mandal, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The tremors were felt across Parigi and surrounding areas, jolting residents awake and forcing many to rush out of their homes in fear. According to NCS, the quake originated at a depth of 10 km, with coordinates 17.26 latitude and 78.04 longitude. The NCS, the nodal agency for earthquake monitoring in India, has classified the event as "reviewed."
According to the advisory from the NCS, residents should remain cautious and follow safety measures during aftershocks. Key precautions suggested by NCS include staying calm, moving to open spaces if outdoors, taking cover under sturdy furniture if indoors, and avoiding glass windows or doors. Motorists are advised to stop vehicles immediately during tremors, while pet owners should free animals to prevent entrapment. No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been confirmed. Officials continue to monitor the situation.
