V C Sajjanar outlines ‘People Welfare Policing’ as top priority in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer V C Sajjanar formally assumed charge as Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, on September 30, 2025, at the Integrated Command and Control Centre, Banjara Hills, amid interfaith prayers.
Outlining his priorities, Sajjanar said “People Welfare Policing” would be the central focus of the city police. The model aims to ensure citizen safety through law and order maintenance, traffic regulation, protection of women and children, use of artificial intelligence-based technology, prevention of cyber and financial crimes, round-the-clock citizen services, and welfare of police personnel.
Drugs, cybercrimes to be tackled sternly
He stressed that authorities would deal firmly with the drug menace destroying youth. They would review past cases to trace networks, while the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) would strengthen its operations. Organizations would expand awareness drives such as “Say No to Drugs.” On cybercrime, Sajjanar expressed concern over scams targeting older citizens, including “digital arrest” and stock market frauds. Awareness campaigns will be organised in colonies, apartments, and bastis.
Focus on traffic and food safety
Traffic management will be another priority. Citing the increase in vehicles after GST reduction, he said long-term measures would be framed to reduce congestion. Drunk-driving checks will be intensified. “Those driving under the influence are like moving suicide bombs on roads. Such acts will not be tolerated,” he said. Food adulteration was termed a serious public health hazard, with strict action promised against offenders.
The commissioner also stressed the importance of police welfare, assuring recognition for officers delivering exceptional service. He reaffirmed Hyderabad’s reputation as a city of communal harmony, saying, “We will continue to strengthen the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb culture of togetherness.” The event was attended by Additional CP (Crime) P Vishwa Prasad, Joint CP (Traffic) D Joel Davis, Joint CP (Administration) Parimala Hana Nutan, and all DCPs of Hyderabad City.
