Hyderabad: Following heavy rains on Thursday morning, June 12, 2025, A.V. Ranganath, Commissioner of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), conducted inspections of several flood-prone areas across the city, including Serilingampally, Kondapur, Bachupally, Rajendranagar, and Mailardevpally.

In Serilingampally, the Commissioner visited Doyens Colony and the Lingampally Railway Underbridge, where water had accumulated due to overflow from Gopi Lake and inadequate drainage. Locals said floodwaters from higher elevations had no proper path into Gopi Lake, leading to road inundation near the Serilingampally municipal office and surrounding colonies.

At the Lingampally underpass, stagnant water was traced to the overflow from Gopi Lake. The Commissioner recommended lowering water levels in both Gopi Lake and Chakkali Lake to help prevent future flooding.

Earlier, in Kondapur, he inspected stormwater drains around Kosoros Apartments and instructed officials to ensure complete restoration of stormwater and sewage systems. In Bachupally, he visited stormwater canals under construction as part of the Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) and urged faster progress. He advised officials to temporarily channel floodwater from Chennam Lake directly into Bachupally Lake to prevent stagnation in the Ramachandrapuram Colony area.

On Wednesday, based on complaints received via the Prajavani platform, the Commissioner visited Upparpally, Shastripuram, and Palle Cheruvu areas in Rajendranagar Mandal. In Ashok Vihar Colony, Upparpally, residents of five apartment complexes, representing around 400 families, described ongoing issues with flooding and sewage due to upstream inflows. They pointed out that a major stormwater drain linked to the Musi River, just 150 meters away, could resolve the problem if a connecting canal were built.

Although funds had been sanctioned, residents said landowners had denied permission for the work. After inspecting stagnant sewage water in apartment premises, the Commissioner promised immediate action. By Thursday morning, a linking canal had been dug, resolving the long-standing issue. Residents expressed relief and gratitude, noting that a problem persisting for seven years was addressed within 12 hours.

Inspection of Palle Cheruvu and Park Encroachment

At Palle Cheruvu in Mailardevpally, locals told the Commissioner that the lake bund had previously breached, flooding roads, sweeping away vehicles, and causing fatalities. They requested that the lake outlet be expanded to prevent future incidents.

In Shastripuram, the Commissioner examined a 1.5-acre park reportedly encroached upon. A local woman stated that children no longer had access to the space as encroachers claimed the land. The Commissioner directed officials to gather records and speak with the encroachers. He assured residents that the park would be restored as per the original layout.
