Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad Students' Union (UoHSU) has condemned a press release issued by the Cyberabad Police regarding the events that took place on March 30, 2025, at the East Campus of the university. The Students' Union claims the statement, released by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gachibowli, misrepresents the facts and attempts to discredit students involved in a peaceful protest.

According to the Students' Union, the press release inaccurately claims that students and outsiders attacked police officers with sticks and stones. The Union maintains that students were peacefully protesting against the use of JCB machines to clear forest land when the police resorted to excessive force, including manhandling female students and detaining protesters at undisclosed locations. The Union points to videos of the incident that have circulated widely, showing police brutality during the protests.

The Students' Union also refuted claims made in the press release regarding two students, Naveen Erram and B. Rohit, who were arrested during the protests. The press note suggested that both individuals were not affiliated with the university, which the Union asserts is false. Naveen Erram, a PhD scholar in the Department of Political Science, and B. Rohit, a PDF scholar, were both involved in the protest and have been wrongfully charged and sent to remand without bail.

In a statement, the Students' Union accused the Telangana Police of spreading misinformation under the influence of political leaders. They criticized the state government for using police power to stifle dissent, particularly regarding the issue of land acquisition. The Union also pointed out that while the Congress Party criticizes the BJP for similar actions, it is using the same oppressive tactics in Telangana.

The UoHSU strongly denounced the misleading press release and demanded the immediate revocation of the false charges against the two students. They called for justice for those peacefully protesting the alleged illegal land grab by the Telangana Government.
