UoH student selected for prestigious research program at Australian National University, Canberra
Hyderabad: Pranav S, a final-year student of the Integrated MA in Economics at the School of Economics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been selected for the prestigious Future Research Talent (FRT) program at the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra. The program, known for its selectivity, aims to promote research collaboration and academic engagement between top Indian institutions and Australian National University (ANU).
Currently based in Canberra, Pranav is undertaking an 11-week research project at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. His project, titled “Early Childhood Shocks and Their Impact on Healthy Ageing,” examines how early life adversities, such as caste-based discrimination, natural disasters, and social policy interventions, affect long-term health outcomes in India. He is working under the supervision of Dr. My Tran and Dr. Jinhu Li, both experts in public health and life course epidemiology.
The prestigious Future Research Talent (FRT) scholarship includes a research stipend of AUD 8,500 to support Pranav’s academic and living expenses during his stay.
As part of his time in Australia, Pranav had the opportunity to meet His Excellency Gopal Baglay, High Commissioner of India to Australia, in Canberra. He also interacted with Professor Chennupati Jagadish, President of the Australian Academy of Science and IoE Chair Professor at University of Hyderabad (UoH). These meetings offered meaningful insights into India’s growing presence in global research and academic exchange. Pranav’s selection highlights the University of Hyderabad’s continued emphasis on international research collaborations and academic excellence.
