The raid was carried out by Dr. K. Prabhakar, Assistant Director, Quthbullapur; K. Murali Krishna, Drugs Inspector, Malkajgiri; and E. Thirupathi, Drugs Inspector, Quthbullapur. DCA officers collected samples for analysis. Further investigation is underway, and action will be taken in accordance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The Act mandates that no individual or entity can stock or sell drugs without a valid license. Violation is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years. The DCA has also warned that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed shops are equally liable under the law, and strict action will be taken against them. They are required to verify the license status of buyers before supplying any medicines.

The DCA has urged the public to buy medicines only from licensed shops. Licensed establishments are required to display their drug license in a clearly visible location. Medicines sold by unlicensed outlets are often unregulated and may be counterfeit, posing serious health risks.

Consumers can verify the license status of a medical shop through the "Third-Party Verification" feature on the DCA’s Online Drug Licensing System (ODLS) at https://odls.telangana.gov.in/ThirdPartypublicview.aspx.

Steps to verify a drug license:

  1. Visit the website: https://odls.telangana.gov.in/ThirdPartypublicview.aspx
  2. Select "Sales" under License Type.
  3. Enter the name of the medical shop or distributor and click "Search" to view license details.

Shahnawaz Qasim, IPS, Director General, Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, has appealed to the public to report any suspicious drug-related activities, including illegal manufacturing or sales, through the DCA’s toll-free number 1800-599-6969. The helpline is active from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on working days.
