‘Unite beyond politics’: Revanth Reddy appeals to Naidu, KCR, Pawan for VP nominee
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made a fervent appeal to all political parties in Telugu states to unite “beyond politics” and ensure the victory of the INDIA bloc’s Vice Presidential candidate, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, calling it a matter of Telugu pride and a responsibility to protect democratic values on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy framed the upcoming Vice Presidential election as a clear choice between the opposition’s constitutional ideals and the ruling NDA’s practices.“On one hand, there is the NDA alliance, which has committed vote theft and made a mockery of democracy. On the other hand, the India alliance is fighting to protect the Constitution with the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi,” Reddy said, setting a stark contrast between the two blocs.
He emphasized that the nomination of Justice Reddy, a retired Supreme Court judge born into an agricultural family in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district, has ‘increased the respect of the Telugu people.’
Making a direct appeal to key leaders, Revanth Reddy said, “I appeal to all parties in both states—Chandrababu Naidu, KCR, Pawan Kalyan, communist brothers, and BJP MPs from both states are appealing to support Sudarshan Reddy.”
He invoked a historic precedent of political magnanimity, recalled, “In 1991, when PV Narasimha Rao, who was in the race for Prime Minister, contested as the Nandyal MP, NTR supported him without contesting. He showed political wisdom. Today, in the context of a Telugu person becoming the Vice President, political parties should show wisdom.”
Stressing the non-partisan nature of the candidate, the Chief Minister reiterated, “Justice Sudarshan Reddy is not from the Congress party. He is a legal expert proposed by the India Alliance. He is not associated with any political party.”
He said this VP election is a rare opportunity for Telugu solidarity, noting it is a matter of pride to see a Telugu person announced as a Vice Presidential candidate after the era of PV Narasimha Rao.
Concluding his address, Revanth Reddy framed the support for Justice Reddy as a democratic duty. “We should all unite and protect democracy. There is a need to make Justice Sudarshan Reddy win now. It is the responsibility of every Telugu to make him win.”
