Hyderabad: Shastripuram ROB construction nears completion
Hyderabad: After experiencing significant delays, the construction of a road over bridge (ROB) at the Uddamgadda railway halt in Shastripuram is nearing completion.
According to GHMC officials, they have completed 90 per cent of civic works on the ROB being built near National Highway-44 on the outskirts of Rangareddy. Ramps on both sides have also been finished.
Earlier, the slow progress on the construction of Uddamgadda overpass was blamed on to lack of coordination between the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Railways.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi had raised the issue of delays in Shastripuram rail over bridge (RoB) while making his statement in the Lok Sabha about the Railway Amendment Bill, 2024.
In my constituency, the Falaknuma RoB and the Shastripuram RoB will break the Guinness Book of (World) Records. For four years, it has been pending. In Shastripuram RoB construction, 10-15 people have lost their lives, Owaisi told the Parliament.
Even though the proposal to construct a road over bridge to ease the traffic at the level-crossing at Uddamgadda railway gate was cleared by the civic body in 2017, the civil works on the project began in 2022. The civic body sanctioned Rs. 71 crore for the project.
A 490-meter-long ROB was mooted to provide a quicker route connecting NH-44 to Old Kurnool Road and further to the Srisailam Highway.
The work on the part of the railway department ( 37.5 m) is incomplete. GHMC is expecting to finish the remaining civil works on the ROB soon and planning to open it to the public by August 2025. The ROB will reduce the travel time for motorists from Shastripuram, Vattepally, Kattedan and Bandlaguda.
