Two workers electrocuted while removing hoarding in Habsiguda

Hyderabad: Two workers were electrocuted on Friday night, January 17, 2025, while removing a hoarding at the Vijayalaxmi Arcade building in Habsiguda.

The victims have been identified as Mallesh (29) and Balu (32), who were working on the hoarding when it came into contact with a high-tension wire nearby. Both men were electrocuted and died on the spot.

Other workers at the site noticed the incident and alerted authorities. The police arrived at the scene and later sent the bodies for postmortem to Gandhi Hospital.

A case has been registered, and investigations are underway. Further details are awaited.

In a separate incident, a 49-year-old fruit vendor, Ahmed Khan, was electrocuted in Bahadurpura on May 8, 2024, during heavy rainfall. Ahmed, a daily wage laborer at a banana storage godown, was crossing a flooded road near Varun Motors when he touched an electric pole for support.

Initially, passersby mistook him for being drunk but later alerted the police. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance but was declared dead upon arrival.

The Bahadurpura Police confirmed that power to the pole was switched off, and Ahmed's body was recovered. CCTV footage from a nearby footpath showed the moment he touched the pole and collapsed. The incident has since spread widely on social media.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid touching electric poles during rainy weather, as waterlogged surfaces increase the risk of electrocution.
