Mahabubnagar: Two children drown in lake-like pit near PLRI
Mahabubnagar: In a tragic incident, two children died after accidentally falling into a large pit dug up at a construction site at Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation (PLRI) on Sunday.
The incident occurred at Uddandapur village of Jadcharla mandal in the district. The deceased have been identified as four-year-old Mahesh and six-year-old Bhagyalakshmi.
As per the details, the two children went along with their mother to their agriculture field located near the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation project, which is meant to irrigate upland areas of Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, and Nalgonda districts.
As the mother was going about her chores in the field, her children started roaming around and accidentally fell into the large lake-like pit. The locals rushed to the spot and immediately rescued the children. Subsequently, they administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to both but in vain.
The villagers are furious at the authorities for not putting barricades at the pit to prevent such mishaps. Following the tragedy, the victims' families and local villagers staged a protest at the accident site and demanding support from the government.
