Hyderabad’s MGBS bus stand flooded, passengers trapped

HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday night reviewed the flood situation in Hyderabad after the Musi river went into spate due to incessant rains and the release of water from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs.

Floodwater entered the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), stranding several passengers. The chief minister spoke to officials through the night and instructed Disaster Response Force teams to safely evacuate those trapped inside. "Passengers must be evacuated immediately and without panic," he told officials.

Officials were directed to divert buses headed towards MGBS to alternative routes until the water recedes. As Dasara and Bathukamma festivities are underway, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) was asked to ensure that commuters reach their destinations without disruption.

Revanth Reddy ordered officials to evacuate people from all low-lying areas and shift them to relief camps. Rehabilitation measures will be extended to affected families. "All departments must remain on alert and join relief efforts," he said, directing police, traffic, GHMC, electricity and rescue teams to coordinate.

The chief minister also asked civic officials to set up caution display boards at all water stagnation points and along stretches where the Musi has crossed danger levels. Traffic diversions, he added, should be managed without causing inconvenience to commuters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for Hyderabad on Saturday as well, prompting authorities to keep emergency teams ready.
