DRDO Transfers Three Materials Technologies to Industry

Hyderabad: Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, transferred three advanced materials technologies to industry partners on August 30, 2025. Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Samir V Kamat handed over the Licensing Agreement for Transfer of Technology documents at an event organised at DMRL.

The technologies transferred include manufacturing of high-strength radomes to BHEL, Jagdishpur, for missile systems; DMR-1700 steel sheets and plates for defence applications to JSPL, Angul; and DMR 249A HSLA steel plates for naval applications to BSP, Bhilai, SAIL. These materials will support key defence and naval programs by meeting the required standards in strength, toughness and reliability.

Strengthening Research and Industry Collaboration

Addressing the gathering, the DRDO Chairman commended the R&D processes and noted DMRL’s role in advancing industry-research partnerships. Partnering with established industrial players is expected to ensure that these technologies are scaled up and deployed for commercial and strategic use.

The event also witnessed the signing of an MoU between DMRL and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The agreement will allow the bureau to utilise DMRL’s facilities and expertise. The programme was attended by Director General (Naval Systems & Materials) RV Hara Prasad, Director General (Resource and Management) Manu Korulla, and Director, DMRL R Balamuralikrishnan.
