Tragic London crash claims lives of two Hyderabad youths after Ganesh immersion

Hyderabad: In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves through the Indian community abroad, two young men from Hyderabad were killed in a devastating road collision in London in the early hours of Monday, September 1. The victims have been identified as Tarre Chaitanya (23) from Nadargul and R Rishiteja (21) from Uppal.

The tragedy unfolded around 4:19 AM on the A130 highway at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout in Essex, approximately 40 miles from central London. According to the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the serious road traffic collision involved two cars carrying eight friends who were returning after participating in Vinayaka Chaturthi immersion ceremonies.

The group had organised traditional Ganesh celebrations in London before departing for the immersion procession. Among the deceased was Chaitanya, a B.Tech graduate from Hyderabad who had moved to London just eight months ago to pursue higher studies. He was the younger son of Tarre Ailayya and Mangammala from Nadargul.

The accident left five other youths injured, all currently receiving treatment at a local London hospital. Medical authorities confirmed that two of the injured remain in critical condition. All individuals involved are identified as residents of Telugu states studying or working in London.

In a significant development, Essex Police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles, aged 23 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both men remain in custody as investigations continue.

The collision forced the complete closure of the A130 in both directions between the Rayleigh Spur roundabout and Hawk Hill at Rettendon for several hours, with authorities advising motorists to avoid the area. All roads have since reopened.
