Diversion ahead: Traffic advisory issued for Durga Matha idol immersion

Residents of parts of Hyderabad may experience traffic restrictions owing to the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga on Sunday. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has made elaborate arrangements for smooth immersion of Goddess Durga idols in Hussain Sagar lake and baby ponds at Jala Vihar and Sanjeevaiah Park.

According to an advisory issued by Hyderabad Traffic police, the traffic restrictions on roads leading to and around Khairatabad will remain in place from October 13, 2014 (Sunday) afternoon to October 14, 2024 (Monday).

Commuters have been advised to avoid these junctions from 3 pm on Sunday to 8 am on Monday: VV Statue, Old Saifabad P.S (Dwaraka Hotel), Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad Traffic Police junction (HTP), AR Petrol Pump, BJR Statue Circle, Basheer Bagh, Liberty, Old Ambedkar Statue, Upper Tank Bund and Nallagutta X Road.

Expect diversions on the following routes: Vehicular traffic coming from Panjagutta and Raj Bhavan Road towards Khairatabad Flyover will be diverted at VV statue towards Nirankari junction while traffic coming from Nirankari junction towards Iqbal Minar will be diverted at Old Saifabad P.S, (Dwaraka Hotel) junction towards Ravindra Bharathi and Masab Tank.

Similarly, traffic coming from Hyderabad Traffic Police complex and AR Petrol Pump junction and planning to go towards Iqbal Minar will be diverted at Ravindra Bharathi Junction towards Lakdi-ka-pul junction. Traffic coming from Upper Tank Bund towards Telugu Talli junction and NTR Marg will be diverted at Old Ambedkar Statue towards Liberty junction.

As for the commuters coming from Himayat Nagar Y junction towards Old Ambedkar Statue, the traffic will be diverted at Liberty junction towards Basheerbagh Junction. However, this diversion won’t be applicable for the vehicles carrying Durga Matha idols so they can head towards Old Ambedkar Statue - Telugu Talli - NTR Marg - Imax Rotary and PVNR Marg (Necklace Road).
