HYDERABAD: February 28, 2025, will remain the most unforgettable day of my life. Winning the Asia Cup final against Pakistan was an emotion beyond words. My 69 runs in that match are more valuable than my two T20 centuries. Batting till the end guiding India to victory under immense pressure gave me unmatched joy.

Carrying India’s hopes in the final was unforgettable

Before the tournament, coach Gautam Gambhir prepared us mentally for the intensity of facing Pakistan, especially since the tournament followed ‘Operation Sindoor’. Walking in to bat after three early wickets, I realised I had to play responsibly. At that moment, I thought about the trust of 140 crore Indians and resolved not to give up until the last run.

Kohli is my inspiration, but I cannot replace him

I started playing cricket after India’s 2011 World Cup win. Virat Kohli been my role model since then. I admire his batting and aggression on the field. Being compared to him is an honour to me, but replacing him is not easy. My dream is to win the T20 World Cup next year. Only after lifting that trophy will I sleep peacefully.

For now, I will spend a few days with my family before preparing for the Australia series. Pakistan players tried hard to unsettle me with sledging, but I stayed calm and focused. Childhood lessons from my coach Salaam Baig helped me maintain composure. When Pakistan celebrated after our third wicket, I chose to respond with the bat, not words.

Seeing millions of Indians smile after the win was my only goal. That joy made me roar in celebration. Being hailed as a new chase master is humbling, but I know the journey has just begun.
