TGSRTC MD VC Sajjanar assures staff amid job cuts fear

Hyderabad: Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) managing director VC Sajjanar clarified that the corporation is not planning for any job cuts as it aims to convert its entire fleet across Greater Hyderabad to electric vehicles by 2025.

Considering the growing air pollution levels in the state capital, the RTC is introducing e-buses on the city roads. The RTC intends to scrap 15-year-old buses that are unfit and the other buses will be refurbished and operated in the districts.

Giving an assurance to the RTC staff, Sajjanar asserted that some sections of the people were deliberately spreading rumours about the privatization of depots across the state. No plans to remove even a single staff member from service despite the corporation’s switch to e-buses, he remarked.

Emphasizing that the corporation will not operate electric buses on all routes in the state, the TGSRTC MD said they are procuring electric buses under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC). He added that the corporation will oversee all operations, including e-buses at the depots.

The state transporter is planning to replace its fleet with 2,400 electric buses in the city. Notably, each electric bus costs Rs. 2 crore. Every day, around 2,800 buses ply on the city roads. The procurement process will be done in a phased manner by the year end.

Currently, the e-buses being operated by the corporation avail the charging facility at Hyderabad Central University and Secunderabad Cantonment bus depots. To support the charging infrastructure for the growing number of e-buses, the RTC would establish seven dedicated bus depots including Kukatpally, Hayathanagar and Dilsukhnagar.
