Chorus grows for TGSP personnel’s rights as cops in uniform join protests with wives
Hyderabad: Earlier, the wives of Telangana State Special Police (TGSP) were protesting against the lack of week-offs for their working husbands and now the constables have also taken to the streets. Uniform wearing constables from different battalions were seen holding protest marches across Telangana.
A senior police official’s controversial remark seems to have sparked a wave of outrage among the rank and files of state special police battalions. On Saturday, constables were seen protesting in uniform in various places in the state. While conducting a counseling session, a senior police officer allegedly asked the protesting women if anyone asked them to marry TGSP personnel.
Meanwhile, a video of a police officer’s objection to the senior officers’ comment goes viral on social media. He said the senior police officer had invited the protesting wives for a counselling session and during the session he said, “who asked you to marry TGSP constables?”
Traffic on a busy Nagarjunasagar highway came to a halt after the family members of the TGSP personnel staged a sit-in and refused to vacate the place. Arguments and scuffles ensued when Maheshwaram police reached the protest site and tried to clear the highway.
The family members of the constables of the Telangana State Special Police have been demanding ‘Ek Police’ implementation in the state. They are also using LED screens and videos to amplify their cause.
