TGPWU calls for RGIA trip boycott to protest low fares by aggregators

Hyderabad: The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) has announced a campaign to boycott Rajiv Gandhi International Airport(RGIA) trips by aggregator companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido. This decision comes in response to the persistent issue of low fares imposed by these companies, which severely impact cab drivers’ livelihoods.

“Despite repeated appeals to the government and the transport department for uniform and fair pricing for aggregator services, no decisive action has been taken. The TGPWU demands the government immediately establish a uniform fare structure to ensure fair pay and sustainable livelihoods for all gig and platform workers,” said Shaik Salauddin, Founder President of TGPWU.

Shaik Salauddin added that cab drivers have consistently voiced their grievances about exploitative fare structures. These low fares compromise driver earnings and devalue their time and efforts. The government must implement a uniform fare policy that is fair to both drivers and passengers.

Gig and platform workers demand fair pricing

TGPWU demands a ban on airport trips until fares are revised to fair and sustainable levels. It demands immediate government intervention to regulate and standardize aggregator pricing policies.

Furthermore, it calls to raise awareness among passengers about the challenges faced by gig and platform workers.The union urges drivers and the public to support fair pay and treatment for gig and platform workers.
