Hyerabad: In a beautiful union of adventure and awareness, Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TFDC), under its eco-tourism brand Deccan Woods & Trails, hosted a memorable Nocturnal Walk and Bird Walk at Forest Trek Park, Manchirevula, Chilkur RF, Hyderabad, from May 24th to 25th. With 22 eager participants, the event promised — and delivered — a journey into nature’s hidden layers.
The Nocturnal Walk began under suspenseful skies threatening rainfall. But nature seemed to play along, offering a timely pause in the showers. As darkness settled, the trail echoed with the chorus of frogs — the Paddy Field Frog, the Ornate Narrow-mouthed Frog, and the mighty Bullfrog — their calls lighting the night with mystery. Participants were awed by the presence of Giant Forest Scorpions, a rare glimpse of the Nagarjuna Sagar Racer, and the silent appearance of two Common Kraits. With expert naturalists Akhil, Suman, and Aparanjani leading the way, safety and respect for wildlife remained paramount throughout.
The following morning, a soft sunrise welcomed the Bird Walk. With binoculars in hand, the group spotted an array of avian wonders — from the shy Grey-bellied Cuckoo and striking Blue-faced Malkoha to raptors like the Oriental Honey Buzzard and Shikra. Lapwings, Nightjars, and Black-shouldered Kites also graced the skies.
Participants left with more than sightings — they carried stories, awe, and a deepened connection to the natural world. As L. Ranjith Nayak, IFS, Executive Director of Eco-Tourism, said, “This event held great — not just for the wildlife spotted, but for the stories that will be carried long after.”
For anyone longing to walk beside the wild and hear the forest breathe, Deccan Woods & Trails offers the perfect call to adventure.
