Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Telangana for May 20 and 21, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in multiple districts. On May 20, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the districts of Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 km/h are likely to occur in all districts across the state. The yellow alert remains in effect for May 21 as well. Thunderstorms with lightning and stronger winds (40–50 km/h) are likely in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30–40 km/h are also expected at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, and Suryapet districts.

The IMD has warned of possible impacts including water accumulation on roads, especially in low-lying areas, and wet and slippery road conditions. Residents are advised to restrict outdoor movement during intense weather periods. Municipal authorities have been urged to issue necessary advisories and display warnings in public areas.

Popular weather observer Telangana Weatherman also posted on X (formerly Twitter), “HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING. The peak effect of the UAC (Upper Air Circulation) to start in Telangana from today. Next 3 days will bring widespread rains in various parts of Telangana including Hyderabad. Few places will get heavy rains (up to 100 mm). Temperatures to drop completely from today.”
