Hyderabad: The Telangana Weatherman on Monday, issued a weather warning for May 26, forecasting moderate to heavy rains across parts of the state. Posting on 'X' (formerly Twitter), (@balaji25_t) he said that the West, South, and Central districts of Telangana can expect rain from late afternoon through midnight. Areas near the Maharashtra and Karnataka borders are likely to receive heavy downpours.

For Hyderabad, the forecast indicates scattered moderate to heavy showers during the evening and night, though the rainfall is not expected to be widespread. On Sunday, May 25, the Weatherman reported light overnight rainfall in parts of Hyderabad between 2 AM and 3 AM, measuring between 2–5 mm. He also noted overcast skies on Monday morning, with passing showers and cool weather likely to continue for a few hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for May 26, warning of heavy rain at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph are also likely in various parts of the state.

The IMD cautioned that water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas is possible, with wet and slippery conditions expected. Authorities have advised restricting unnecessary movement and urged municipal bodies to issue appropriate public warnings. In light of the ongoing weather conditions, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had on May 21 instructed officials to remain on high alert. With more rain expected over the coming days, he directed District Collectors to ensure the protection of paddy stored at procurement centers by arranging for its prompt transport to mills.

The Chief Minister also called for coordinated efforts from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), police, traffic, electricity departments, and HYDRAA teams to address waterlogging, traffic congestion, and power outages. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with regular monitoring.

To bolster preparedness ahead of the monsoon, 12 State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, each with 100 personnel, have been deployed across Telangana. Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are stationed in Hyderabad, and more have been requested for rain-prone districts. Fire personnel across all district headquarters have undergone disaster response training. Rapid-response HYDRAA teams have also been set up in Hyderabad and its suburbs, focusing on flood-prone areas.
