Telangana Government expands Urban Development Authorities to manage urbanisation
Hyderabad: In an effort to tackle the challenges posed by rapid population growth and urban sprawl, the Telangana Government has announced the expansion of Urban Development Authorities (UDAs) across key regions in the state. This initiative aims to ensure strategic planning for infrastructure development around major cities and towns.
The Sangareddy Urban Development Authority, Siddipet Urban Development Authority, and Vikarabad Urban Development Authority have all been expanded to facilitate organised urbanisation. These authorities are tasked with creating comprehensive master plans that address essential aspects such as road networks, water supply, employment opportunities, and the growth of satellite townships. The successful model of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has set a precedent for this approach.
Sangareddy Urban Development Authority
The Government has established the Sangareddy Urban Development Authority to encompass Sangareddy Town, along with five municipalities and 466 villages within Sangareddy District. This development area is expected to promote well-planned urbanisation and mitigate uncontrolled growth.
Siddipet Urban Development Authority
Similarly, the Siddipet Urban Development Authority has been expanded to include an additional four municipalities and 286 villages in Siddipet District. This expansion aims to enhance the region's urban planning efforts and ensure systematic development in response to anticipated growth.
Vikarabad Urban Development Authority
The Vikarabad Urban Development Authority has also been constituted to cover Vikarabad Town and its surrounding areas, which include four municipalities and 492 villages in Vikarabad District. This authority will play a crucial role in managing urbanisation effectively and fostering sustainable development.
Through these expansions, the Telangana Government seeks to ensure that urban growth is well integrated and strategically planned, ultimately aiming to create livable and sustainable urban environments in the face of increasing population pressures.
