Telangana Government declares December 9 as 'Telangana Thalli Formation Festival'
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government, on Monday, issued a Government Order (GO) adopting "Telangana Thalli" as the symbol of the state and declared December 9 as "Telangana Thalli Formation Festival."
The government has designated "Telangana Thalli" as a symbol representing the fighting spirit of the Bahujans of Telangana, the region's cultural and traditional practices, its agricultural heritage, and the hard-working lifestyle of its people. It is also intended to inspire future generations.
The state government approved a statue of "Telangana Thalli," which was unveiled on December 9, 2024. The statue depicts the mother of Telangana as a traditional woman wearing a green saree with a golden border, adorned with a traditional headband, bead necklace, bangles on her hands, kadiyas (anklets) on her feet, and a nose ring. The woman is portrayed as a middle-aged figure, exuding calmness and wisdom. She holds traditional dishes of rice, sorghum, and bajra in her left hand, symbolising the state's agricultural culture.
The government has declared that the image of Telangana Thalli must not be altered, misrepresented, or disrespected in any manner. Any act of defamation, including destruction, ridicule, or insult, whether in public, online, or on social media, will be considered a criminal offense.
In a move to institutionalise this recognition, the government has also declared that every year, December 9 will be observed as "Telangana Thalli Formation Festival." This will be an official event held across the state, including government offices at the state, district, and mandal levels.
