Telangana State Women’s Commission demands end to degrading dance steps in Telugu films
Hyderabad: The Telangana State Women's Commission, chaired by Nerella Sarada, issued a directive on March 20, 2025, calling for an immediate stop to any dance steps in Telugu films that belittle or degrade women.
Nerella Sarada said, "If this warning is not adhered to, we are prepared to take strict actions under the relevant laws."
The move follows several complaints received by the Commission regarding inappropriate and degrading dance sequences in certain film songs. The Commission expressed concern over the portrayal of women in a humiliating or obscene manner, highlighting the impact cinema has on society.
The Commission urged filmmakers, producers, choreographers, and others involved in the film industry to act responsibly. They stressed that any dance steps that degrade women must be halted immediately.
"It is the ethical responsibility of the film industry to convey positive messages and protect the dignity of women," said Sarada. "Considering the influence of films on youth and children, the industry must practice self-regulation."
The Telangana State Women's Commission has invited feedback from the public and social organizations on the issue and will continue to monitor the situation closely, taking necessary action as required.
