TGSRTC JAC to launch indefinite strike from May 6, demands merger
Hyderabad: Over 47,000 employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) are all set to go on an indefinite strike from May 6, 2025, demanding the implementation of 21 key demands.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the state transporter said the RTC workers will go on strike next month if their demands are not accepted by the government. The RTC employees have given a strike notice to the Labour Commissioner and the Corporation’s Managing Director, VC Sajjanar at Bus Bhavan on Monday.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the ruling government’s inaction on the assurance given in the Congress party’s election manifesto, the TGSRTC union leaders said the current dispensation has neither revised wages nor credited their salaries to date.
The demands of the RTC unions include a proposal to merge the corporation with the state government, removal of restrictions on trade unions and implementation of two Pay Revision Commissions without further delay. Notably, the employees have been demanding a salary revision since 2021 and also demanded similar privileges being extended to government employees.
In January, the leaders of the RTC Joint Action Committee served a strike notice on the management, explaining their 21 demands. The union leaders alleged that the government is trying to privatise the corporation by adding the electric buses into TGSRTC fleet. They added that the operational charge is being given to a private company which may put their jobs at risk.
