Hyderabad: The Telangana Weatherman has issued a weather alert for Thursday, warning of heavy downpours across the state. In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), he forecasted heavy rainfall in North, Central, West, and East Telangana beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing until midnight. Some areas are expected to receive over 80 mm of rain. Hyderabad is likely to experience moderate to heavy showers during the evening and night.

The alert follows heavy rainfall recorded across Telangana on Wednesday. Medak district received the highest rainfall at 119.3 mm, with Masaipet in Medak recording 112.5 mm. In Hyderabad, Bandlaguda recorded 98.8 mm, followed by Saidabad with 92.3 mm, Amberpet with 91.8 mm, and Saroornagar with 90.5 mm. Jagadevpur in Siddipet and Dandepally in Mancherial reported 62.0 mm each.

In response, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to stay alert. Citing forecasts for continued rain over the next three days, he highlighted the need for precautionary measures across the state. He instructed all District Collectors to ensure that paddy stored in procurement centers and markets is protected from rain and that bagged grain is transported promptly to mills. He also ordered that people in low-lying areas receive necessary support.

In Hyderabad, the Chief Minister called for coordinated efforts from GHMC, Police, HYDRAA, Traffic, and Electricity departments to prevent waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and power outages. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with regularly monitoring the situation. With monsoon rains expected by the end of the month, the government has asked all District Collectors to prepare in advance. Twelve State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, each with 100 trained personnel from the Telangana Special Police, have been stationed across the state for quick deployment.

Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are currently posted in Hyderabad. The state has also requested additional NDRF teams for districts likely to experience severe rainfall. Fire personnel in all former district headquarters have received disaster response training, and rapid response HYDRAA teams have been set up for Hyderabad and its suburbs.

Authorities said these steps aim to reduce the risk of damage from sudden or heavy rain. District Collectors have been directed to coordinate with their respective SDRF and NDRF teams and to maintain communication with the State Disaster Management Department.

Collectors have also been advised to work closely with district fire officers and to utilize support from trained personnel from Singareni Collieries for emergency response. The Special Chief Secretary of the Disaster Management Department has asked officials to focus on flood-prone and rain-affected areas.
